Privacy Policy
Last updated: March 19, 2026
Overview
Live Party is a Chrome extension that synchronizes video playback between users in real-time. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect (and don't collect).
Data We Do NOT Collect
Live Party does not collect, store, transmit, or sell any of the following:
- Personally identifiable information (name, email, address)
- Health or financial information
- Authentication credentials
- Browsing history or web activity
- Location data
- User activity (clicks, mouse movements, keystrokes)
- Website content
Data Stored Locally
The following data is stored locally on your device using Chrome's storage API and never leaves your browser:
- Username — the display name you choose for watch parties
- Avatar selection — the avatar you pick for your profile
- Room state — temporary session data for active watch parties
This data is never transmitted to any server. You can clear it at any time by removing the extension.
Peer-to-Peer Communication
Live Party uses WebRTC for direct peer-to-peer connections between users in the same watch party. This means:
- Video sync data (play, pause, seek, speed) is sent directly between users — not through our servers
- Chat messages are sent directly between users — not through our servers
- The only server involvement is a PeerJS signaling server used to establish the initial connection. This server only facilitates the handshake and does not store any data
Third-Party Services
- PeerJS — used for WebRTC signaling (initial connection only). See PeerJS for their privacy practices.
No Analytics or Tracking
Live Party does not include any analytics, telemetry, tracking pixels, or advertising SDKs.
